MARBLE CASTING
Materials Needed:
Clear Casting Resin
Marble dust
Catalyst
Mixing Pot
Drill
Mixing Bit
Wax lined Paper Cup
Acetone
Mixing Stick
MIXING INSTRUCTIONS
**One part = volume (example: 1 qt. resin, add up to
1 qt. marble dust)
One part clear casting resin, add up to one part marble
dust depending on desired viscosity. Mix well, using drill and mixing bit.
Let stand until air bubbles comes up out
of the mix.
Put the volume needed to fill the mold into the paper cup. Add catalyst:
EXAMPLE: 12 oz of marble mix add 5 to 8 ml catalyst.
Mix catalyst slowly and well, scraping sides of the cup
and mixing up off the bottom. If the mold can be opened, brush in small amounts
of catalyzed marble mix into the mold
and coat the entire surface. Pour excess back into cup, this allows air to be
released from surface. Then fill mold with the rest of the mix.
Clean up hands and all tools using acetone.
Let gel. One hour after gelling, part should be ready to
pull. Check by trying to insert your finger nail into the
base. If your
finger nail will not go in, it is ready to pull. Pull part and let cure over
night.
Clean up seams and patch any porosity with small
amount of
catalyzed marble mix. After patches are
cured, shape them with fine sand
paper or knife.
Using acetone and a brush wash entire surface of part, starting at the top and working down. Do not allow any puddles to form on the part.
Once you have completed the last step your piece is
ready for showing off to friends and family.
